Our experience

Owens' Motel was somewhat of a disappointment. We have stayed there for years and overall, it's not too bad, but there were a lot of little things wrong. No toaster, very limited cookware and dinnerware. The front door had to be shut by slamming it. Back window had to be propped open, the sash frame was coming apart, and the window could not be locked. Before Hurricane Isabel in 2003, there was a roof over the third floor porches. Now, if you want to sit outside in midday, you're sitting directly in the sun. We have found since that we can get a nice three bedroom condo or modest-sized house in a similar location for the same price or less that we paid Owen's (for an ocean-front room). Our experience

The Sea Foam was a similar experience to Owen's (above). There were a lot of little annoying things wrong. For instance, a perpetual wet spot on the carpet outside the bathroom door. Who wants to walk on wet carpet? Showering was as adventure. You never knew when the water temperature was going to change suddenly - it ranged from suddenly very cold to suddenly very hot. It basically needed general maintenance. We have since discovered that we can pay about the same amount (as an ocean-front room at the Sea Foam) for a well-kept condo or house in a similar location.
