Salvo is the southermost of what is known to the locals as the "Tri-Villages" because of their close proximity to each other. It was originally called Clark, but given the name Salvo in 1901 when it got its own post office. According to legend, Salvo is so named because during the Civil War, a Union ship fired a salvo (firing canons simultaneously) in its honor.
